The vast Adirondack Park is the largest park in the contiguous US. Its wilderness of six million acres of green forest is known as the “North Woods” and is equal to the size of neighboring Vermont and three times the size of Yellowstone National Park. Within this wild domain, there are thousands of pristine alpine lakes, hundreds of miles of mountain streams and rivers, and 46 rugged peaks rising over 4,000 feet into the sky. The Lodge has excellent experienced guides for hire that can help you explore this lesser-known park.

Blackberry Farm - Walland, TN
For my clients in Atlanta who ask me for the best recommendation for summer travel, my go-to is the 4,200-acre Blackberry Farm. This working farm in the heart of Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains is sophisticated and very luxury focused, without any of the stuffiness.
Great for active travelers, you can explore the property on horseback, canoe and mountain bike or on intimate walking trails or even via old-fashioned carriage. Fly-fishing in Hesse Creek is one of the best spots in Tennessee.
Food and wine take center stage at The Barn, where multi-course menus feature the bounty of the farm’s bakery, butchery, creamery and extensive wine cellar of 160,000 bottles. Be sure to take part in one of Blackberry Farm’s cooking schools or wine events. You really can’t beat this spot for foodies.
What’s New?
Blackberry Mountain, opened in 2018, is the farm’s sister property. Individual cabins and cottages were designed with nature in mind, offering places to unplug from the world. This is a great option for those worried about social distancing as it allows for more privacy.
What’s Notable?
While nature is the star here, food also demands top billing. Everything here is made from scratch and is crafted using local ingredients. Just checking out their list of food artisans should give you a clue to how seriously they take their culinary program. This resort lands on top of any “Best Of for Foodies” list and has earned three James Beard awards.

Sea Island, GA
Since 1928, Sea Island has been known as an exceptional destination appealing to families, outdoor and activity enthusiasts, and those simply wanting to refresh and recharge. There are four accommodation options on Sea Island that I recommend, depending on the type of experience you want to have.
The Cloister
Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, The Forbes Five Star Cloister offers an array of family and individual activities — from rejuvenating massage services and fitness classes at the 65,000-square-foot Forbes Five Star Spa to a historic shooting school, championship golf and seaside Beach Club. Cloister guests experience genuine Southern hospitality and world-class lodging with gracious service, natural beauty and legendary recreation along five miles of private beach.
The Lodge
The Lodge at Sea Island has been a Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond resort since its opening in 2001. Reminiscent of an old English manor, The Lodge is a more boutique property nestled between two of Sea Island's championship golf courses. Most of its 57 bedrooms and suites offer views of the Atlantic Ocean or the Plantation Course. This resort pampers visitors with personal butler service, including complimentary rose petal baths along with milk and cookies before bed. The Lodge was named the #1 Hotel in the U.S. by U.S. News & World Report.
Cottages
Renting a cottage is a treasured tradition for Sea Island families. Cottages afford the spaciousness, convenience, and privacy of a personal residence, along with complete access to dining, golf, spa, and other resort privileges at The Cloister and The Lodge. This is ideal for guests desiring intimate, self-contained, and expansive opportunities.
The Inn
The Inn embodies the same spirit, charm, and warm hospitality as The Cloister and The Lodge, but in a more casual setting. With access to Sea Island available for an additional fee, The Inn at Sea Island offers the resort’s three championship golf courses and Golf Performance Center, as well as a wide variety of dining and activity options just a few minutes away.
What’s Notable?
While Sea Island is known for its world-class golf courses, don’t miss the opportunity to take a guided boat tour of the salt marshes. You’ll learn all about the area’s rich history and kids will love getting an up-close look at the many animals that call the marshes home.

Here you are surrounded by such iconic attractions as the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, and Bryce and Zion National Parks. Amangiri’s 34 suites, entered via a private courtyard, offer private plunge pools and rooftop terraces, as well as modern, airy living, dining and sleeping areas with white-stone floors that echo the area’s natural stone. The resort’s central Pavilion houses the Living Room, Gallery, Library and an elegant restaurant that features floor-to-ceiling glass doors and an outdoor dining terrace overlooking the pool.
